Is it actually private?
Yes — structurally, not just by policy. Files travel directly between devices over an encrypted WebRTC connection. Our servers only introduce devices to each other; the bytes never touch them, so there is no copy of your file for anyone to leak, subpoena, or train on.
How big can a file be?
Files up to 200 MB send to every device automatically. Bigger files — multi-gigabyte video, full photo libraries — are pulled straight to disk on the receiving side (Chrome and Edge), streamed in small chunks so memory never fills up.
Do both devices need to be online?
Yes — a channel is a live connection, like a phone call for files. Anything dropped stays available while someone on the channel still holds it, so latecomers can pull what they missed.
What happens when everyone leaves?
The channel is gone. Nothing is stored anywhere — no history, no cloud copies, no account to delete. The name itself returns to the pool.
How is this different from AirDrop or WeTransfer?
AirDrop needs Apple devices in the same room. WeTransfer uploads your file to their servers and gives you a link. channel.fm works between any two devices on the internet, and nothing is ever uploaded — the channel name replaces both the cable and the cloud.
